International Mother Earth Day: History and Significance

Senator Gaylord Nelson was concerned about the deteriorating conditions of the planet, Earth is a living organism, and he decided to combine the student anti-war protest energy with an emerging public consciousness regarding air and water pollution. Senator Gaylord Nelson thought about coining Earth Day after he, just like the rest of the world, saw the horror of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California.

“Two decades ago, a British scientist named James Lovelock put forth an imaginative and poetic view of how the Earth functions. The planet’s living organisms, he said, act together to regulate the global environment: Life interacts chemically and physically with the air, the waters, and the rocks to maintain optimum conditions for itself.” The  New York TimesThroughout history, the concept of Mother Earth has always been a part of human life and culture in one form or another. You might have heard of Mother Earth, but have you ever thought of your Mother Earth?  It has always been considered that Earth is simply a planet and everybody has exploited its Mother Earth. It has later been assessed that our planet is a breathing, living organism. Now, we think of the Earth holistically and ecological, as one living entity of its own, instead of the sum of its parts. Our planet is like a human being it has its requirement functions as a single organism that maintains conditions necessary for its survival. Have we started thinking that our Mother Earth is a living organism? Do we care or just doing a show-off? Think?

The theme for Earth Day 2022 is “Invest In our Planet” calling for businesses to shift towards sustainable practices.
The United Nations celebrates the day as International Mother Earth Day. It will mark the day with the theme – “Harmony with Nature”.

Do We Want Peaceful Mother Earth? If Yes, We Have To Worry About It!

This year, the theme of Earth Day is “invest in our planet“. Have we invested in our earth or it has been exploited by all generations. We have to think about it seriously! Earth is our mother and we respect our mother. But do we respect our Mother Earth? We have always been dependent on the earth and we will remain dependent in the future. Unfortunately, we have never been serious about its Health. As the result of all these exploitations, our Mother Earth is in a big crisis of exitance from here it is extremely difficult to make it peaceful and healthy. Let us try seriously to make our Mother Earth, a living organism.

• Let us Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Reuse what you throw away. Follow the three “R’s” to conserve natural resources and landfill space.
• Act as Volunteer. to clean your community. Helps and spread awareness among society about cleanliness.
• Teachers and Students should educate. the society about the importance of living organism and you all should feel to work and help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.
• Learn To Conserve water. The less water we use, the less runoff and wastage. Wastewater that eventually ends up in the ocean.
• Be Minimalist and sustainable. Learn how to live a minimalist and sustainable life.
• Buy the things wisely  We should buy reusable shopping bags and don’t use plastic bags.
• Always Plant a tree in your locality. Trees provide us with food and oxygen. They help us save energy, clean the air,  give shade, and help combat climate change.
