Ayurveda’s Relation and Connotation of Makar Sankranti

As per Hindu scripture, Lord Vishnu vanquished the horror brought on by demons on the day of Makar Sankranti by cutting off their heads and burying them behind a mountain, signifying the end of evil and the beginning of righteousness and good intents to live well and succeed. The of Makar Sankranti is a good day for ‘Sadhna’ spritualism and meditation.

What do we do on Makar Sankranti in the morning?

We used to get up early in the morning when were kids and went to village Johad and Talaab to take bath as this was considered positive and auspicious start to the day. We burnt fire in the houses and street. After taking a bath, one must pray to the Sun by reciting the Gayatri Mantra and performing Argya, which involves giving the Sun water. After all this, we used to get Churma and Dal with Ghee an ample amount. Things have now almost changed and instead of going to Johad we take bath in hot water and prepare Dal Churma at home and eat it like sweets.

At some places, Khichdi is prepared in a single pot with all the components, including freshly harvested rice, lentils, seasonal veggies, and spices, so it’s not only good for your health but also represents unity on Makar Sankranti. It denotes the cycle of life and renewal, which also denotes the start of a new harvest year.

Kite Flying on Makar Sankranti

Kite flying is one of Poush Sankranti’s most popular attractions, particularly in the Gujarat region. When one thinks of Makar Sankranti, a picture of the lip-smacking sweets spread out on the terrace against the music of “Kai Po Che” nearly immediately comes to mind. The tradition of flying kites is thought to have originated as a means of maintaining good health. The goal was to soak up the benefits of Vitamin D by exposing oneself to the first rays of the early morning summer sun.

Greetings from the Forest Essentials family and best wishes for Makar Sankranti! Take some time on this important occasion to reflect on the past, purge the bad, and make room for new light to enter your life.
