decline in applications for CUET-UG exams

University entrance exams saw a significant decrease of 10% in applications, particularly for the CUET-UG, with a total of 13.5 million applicants. Conversely, the NEET-JEE exams experienced a surge, receiving a record-breaking 36 million applications this year, marking the highest number ever recorded. This decline in applications for CUET-UG exams is noteworthy and signals a shift in student preferences.

CUET-UG 2024: 10% Less Applications, DU, BHU, Ambedkar University 3 Top Universities

Among the top three most sought-after universities for undergraduate courses are Delhi University, BHU, and Ambedkar University. Delhi University alone received a staggering 25 million applications for various courses, indicating its continued popularity among students.

The CUET-UG exams will be conducted in a hybrid mode this year, with offline exams scheduled for subjects that received over 1.5 million applications and online exams for others. This approach aims to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of students while ensuring a smooth examination process.

Furthermore, the acceptance of CUET scores has expanded to 262 universities, up from 249 last year and a significant increase from the 90 universities that accepted CUET scores in the inaugural year. This broader acceptance reflects the growing recognition of CUET as a standardized assessment tool for university admissions.

In terms of subject preferences, English remains the most popular choice among applicants, followed closely by Science and General Test. Physics and Mathematics also continue to be highly sought-after subjects, reflecting the enduring importance of these disciplines in higher education.

This time, the highest number of applications (36 lakh) in history came for the medical and engineering entrance examinations (NEET-JEE). At the same time, the number of applications in CUET-UG, the entrance examination for admission to universities, has decreased. 13.50 lakh students have applied for the Common University Entrance Test – Undergraduate, to be held between May 15 and 31 for admission to undergraduate courses for the session 2024-25 in Central Universities and other universities across the country, which last year (15 lakh) are 10 percent less. This time students were allowed to choose 6 papers instead of 10. Due to this this decrease has occurred. However, the number of students for each paper has increased. What is also interesting is that the year is different, the students are different, but the trend of choosing subjects has been the same for two years.
Like the last two years, this time also the maximum number of applications for English has been more than 10 lakh, whereas for the general test paper, there have been more than 8.34 lakh applications. Delhi University remains the most popular university in the country for undergraduate courses. This time DU has received 25 lakh applications for different courses. Banaras Hindu University is at second place with 8.41 lakh applications.
