This article is my tribute to the freedom fighters of Haryana. Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti is celebrated on September 23 every year in Haryana. Veer Saheedi Diwas in Haryana Rao Tula Ram Jayanti is observed as a state holiday on September 23. Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti is observed on September 23 to honour those who gave their lives in defending the nation and Haryana.

Rao Tula Ram is regarded as a hero in the state for his role in driving the British out of Haryana’s southwest region. He also aided the insurgents in Delhi. On this day, Haryana pays homage to the soldiers and fighters who fought for India. Functions are organized at different places in Haryana. In Jhajjar, Haryana, people gathered at Silani Gate Jhajjar to pay homage to the martyr, Rao Tula ram, the eminent freedom fighter of 1857. A function is conducted at Silani Gate where the statue of Rao Tula Ram was established long back. During the function, police officers salute as a mark of respect. During the event, police officers also turned their arms upside down.

Rao Tularam was born in Rampura, Rewari on December 9, 1825. Rao Poorna Singh. His father died when Rao Tula Ram was only 14 years old and after the father’s death, the British gradually took over their kingdom.

Then Rao Tularam organized his troops. He joined the uprising as the 1857 uprising’s flames spread to Meerut. Under the command of Rao Tularam and his brother, the army of Rewari destroyed the English authority and seized numerous regions in the vicinity of Rewari. He died on September 23, 1863, in Kabul. Rao Tula Ram made crucial contributions to the emancipation of India. His contribution to India’s freedom movement can’t be forgotten. The youth of the area is impressed by his contribution and they feel proud to be a part of that area and serve India and always ready to sacrifice their life for the country.

Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas September 23: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti has a political importance

Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas September 23: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti has always been very important in the politics of Haryana, especially Ahirwal. Although this day is remembered for the death anniversary of Jung-e-Azadi megastar Rao Tularam and the Haryana Veer and Martyr Day is celebrated at the government level to commemorate it, this day has special significance in the politics of the state. Because big political decisions like a merger of the Vishal Haryana Party with Congress and starting a water war have been taken on this day.

The announcement of the Regional Center (now Indira Gandhi University) and the announcement of making Rewari a district was also made on the same day.

Rao Tula Ram’s Initial success

Rao Tula Ram with the help of his cousin, Rao Gopal Dev, and his four hundred followers occupied Rewari on May 17, 1857. He increased his force to about 5000 soldiers and they started manufacturing guns and other ammunition for the war against the Britishers. In this process of his fight against the Britishers, he joined hands with Bahadur Shah and other rebel forces who were fighting.

“Rao’s forces, which were led by his cousin Rao Krishan Singh, fought against the British on 16 November 1857 in the field of Nasibpur on the outskirts of Narnaul. The first charge of Rao Tularam’s forces was irresistible and the British forces scattered before them; several British officers were killed or wounded.[3]”

“The British successfully retaliated and after the battle of Narnaul Rao Tularam moved into Rajasthan and joined the force of Tantia Tope for one year but the forces of the Tantia Tope were defeated by British forces in the battle of Sikar in Rajasthan. After which Rao Tularam left India to seek help from the Shah of Iran (also see Anglo-Persian War from November 1856 to April 1857), Dost Mohammad Khan ruler of Emirate of Afghanistan (also see First Anglo-Afghan War from 1938 to 42), and Alexander II Emperor of All Russia against British colonial empire. Rao Tularam’s estates were confiscated by the British in 1859, though the proprietary rights of his two wives were retained. In 1877, his title was restored to his son Rao Yudhister Singh, who was made head of the Ahirwal area.[4]”

The Indian Government issued a postal stamp on  September 23, 2001, featuring Maharaj Rao Tula Ram. Many institutions are named in his honour like Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital in Jaffarpur Kalan Maharaj Rao Tula Ram Polytechnic Wazirpur Chirag Delhi[7] the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses at Maharaj Rao Tula Ram Marg.

I got an opportunity to report the function on Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas on September 23: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti, held at G.S.S. Dadri Toye. The function of Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas on September 23: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti at 10 a.m. The school was decorated with Indian flags when I entered the school. The function started with the National Anthem, and the chief guest, D.E.O. Jhajjar, was received by the Principal, Dr. Rajinder. The students welcomed the chief guest. The students of class 12 recited Saraswati Vandana.

A student of class 11 delivered a speech on Haryana Veer Saheedi Diwas on September 23: Rao Tula Ram Jayanti. The different competitions were organized on this day. Sh. Mahinder Singh, Senior Lecturer, addressed the students and explained the life and achievements of Rao Tula Ram. The Principal also addressed the students on this occasion. The History of the district Rewari is contemporary to the history of Delhi. During the MAHABHARATA period, there was a king named Rewat He had a daughter whose name was Rewati. But the king used to call her Rewa lovingly. The king founded and established a city named “Rewa wadi” after the name of her daughter. Later on, Rewa got married to Balram, elder brother of Lord Krishna, and the king donated the city “Rewa wadi” as a dowry to her daughter. Later the city Rewa wadi became REWARI.

The majority of the castes which lived in Rewari were Morya, Gupta, and Gujjars. Although now the majority is of the Ahirs, all castes live in harmony. In the city, the Punjabis and Guptas have a hold on the business.
