On the Gregorian calendar, why do the dates of Eid shift each year?
Muslims are more likely to use a lunar calendar than a Gregorian calendar because of this. People in the West are more likely to adhere to the latter. As a result, the sighting of the crescent moon marks the beginning of each month according to the Islamic lunar calendar.
The Islamic calendar is lunar-based, hence Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr are 10-11 days earlier than in the Western calendar. Every year, this varies according to the time of year that the crescent moon may be seen. This is due to the shorter length of the lunar month compared to the solar month. There is a slight variation in this between countries. People observe ‘chaand raat’ in the evening after the final Ramadan fast if they can see the crescent moon. People congregate in public places like parks and their homes to see the crescent moon at the conclusion of the last day of Ramadan, which is known as Chaand raat in Islam. If the crescent moon cannot be sighted, Muslims keep the fast the following day and then celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr the following day.
