If one early June morning you are suddenly stopped in your walk by a ringing “piu-piu-piu-pee-pee-piu-piu” call coming from the trees in your park or garden, you will feel your heart suddenly lifted. Look around and you may see two large, handsome, black-and-white birds with long coattails chase each other through the trees. They are pied cuckoos, that have come from Africa, and are said to announce the arrival of the greatest show on earth – the Indian monsoon. Be assured, the curtain will rise in a month or so.
2. To get a proper view of the onset of the monsoon, you really need to be stationed anywhere on the coastline of India or up in the hills. The grand show of grey clouds approaches like an airborne army, preceded by cool breezes, filling the air with electric charge so that you feel very happy. Spear of lighting flickers in the sky and the sound of thunder makes you feel excited.
And then, it pours. The cracked earth without any green cover sucks down the flood of water-and then Mother Nature goes mad. Seeds scattered or buried like grains of sand or pebbles in the ground suddenly come to life. Shoots of plants rocket skywards, roots plunge into the soft, spongy earth sucking up water and nutrients. It’s a hint the grasshoppers have been waiting for. And bugs, beetles, caterpillars, centipedes, etc. emerge in their billions, feasting on the fresh green plants in the fields (to the annoyance of many a farmer) as also on each other.
3. There are miracles and there is music too : singing golden frogs appearing in large numbers in a rain-filled ditch, taking part in a group song that Bollywood would have envied. They vanish the very next day. They’d been waiting patiently all through the blistering summer, deep underground, conserving whatever moisture they had soaked up. Fireflies wink through the trees in the hills, sending their greenish signals to one another in codes as precise as any we may use for our most secret messages.
4. All this is what the birds have been waiting for. Most birds have spent the spring and summer courting and now it’s time to settle down. Baby birds need a lot of high protein at frequent intervals, which the rich supply of insect life so happily provides : Caterpillars are eaten up in their millions, as are furry moths, earthworms slurped down like noodles, spiky dragonflies beaten to bits to soften them up into baby food. The long-legged storks and herons – get busy with fishing. As for the big guys like lions and tigers in the jungles : they too had it relatively easy during the summer when their thirsty prey came to the waterholes. Now, with water easily available, in streams and ponds all over, they need to work harder for their meals. But yes, this is, perhaps, compensated by the arrival of baby deer – and fawns are sweet and soft, not very experienced in the merciless ways of the lions and tigers, even if they may seem more like a snack than a main meal. The animals get a rest from us, too, as parks and sanctuaries close down, not so much out of kindness as because the roads become impassable.

And then, just as you are beginning to tire of the green mould on your shoes, belts and bags, and of all the sniffles and snuffles that the rains also bring (bacteria and viruses also love this season), the clouds begin to disperse and float away in large armies. But before this happens, at least once, do go out in the midst of a downpour, raise your face to the heavens and dance and sing and celebrate this, the greatest show on earth.

It is generally accepted that leadership development should be a part of the education system’s responsibility for preparing individuals to participate in a democratic and progressive society.
Many schools, colleges and universities, across nations, provide their students with leadership courses, curricular programs and co-curricular programs that are designed to develop students’
formal knowledge about leadership as well as opportunities and experiences to develop students as leaders and actually practise leadership. Yet, only a handful of studies have sought to
understand leader development from the students’ point of view, with students describing their own experiences and what they learned from them in their own words.

A 2014 descriptive study sought to understand student leadership with research through key events via the following research questions: Research Question 1: What key events do student leaders in college, report as significantly impacting their development as a leader? Research Question 2: What lessons do student leaders in college, report learning as a result of the key events they have experienced? Research Question 3: Are certain key events more likely to be linked to particular lessons? Approximately 130 students were contacted and the 72 interested, were interviewed. Two members of the research team were present for each 15–45-minute interview. One member served as the primary interviewer while the second ran the audio equipment. The results for lessons learned (Table 1), were varied, but there were a few that were frequently quoted.

India has become a construction hub as residential and commercial properties are in high demand. Hence, the importance of worker safety in construction zones has become a serious issue in the construction sector, as it is believed to be quite hazardous and has the highest number of fatal work injuries. The stakeholders in the construction field tend to ignore the rules and regulations. There could be immense reasons behind the issue of worker safety.

The working hours of the workers depend on the nature and demand of the work. So, they get tired due to excess work and get fatigued, and the chances of accidents increase. Sometimes they work overtime without caring about their fatigue. The health issue of construction workers is another cause of fatalities, as the workers are not insured in India. So, in extreme weather conditions, they get sick and are unable to attend the hospital due to a shortage of money. Another reason for the fatalities is that they get buried under the soil due to a lack of safety measures in the mining areas. The managers of construction companies feel superior, and they consider the workers just as machines. Such a feeling creates misunderstandings among the workers. And last but not least, lack of training also causes fatal accidents on construction sites.

Safety is a vital part of any project to reduce the cost of the project. Safety on construction sites protects the public. Safety also reduces work-related accidents. Hence, a culture of safety should be developed on the construction site. So, give workers training to improve their safety and the safety of the public.

On November 1, 2022, the P.B. Public hosted its annual sports day meet in honour of Haryana Day in the school play ground. The sports meet starts at 10 a.m. with the speech of The Deputy Commissioner of Jhajjar, Sh. Shakti Singh, the chief guest, spoke to the gathering about the importance of games in our lives. He permitted to start the annual sports day of the school by unfurling the green flag. All the participating teams of houses marched past on the ground with the flags of their houses, and they were cheered by the students and audience gathered on the ground. The annual sports day function began with the athletics of different wings of the school. Then, the four houses participated in Khoko, kabaddi, and badminton. The judges made their decision on the champion house, and Subhash House was declared the overall winner of the annual sports day. In the end, the award ceremony began and the Deputy Commissioner handed over the trophy to the captain of the Subhash House. Thus, the annual sports day came to an end at 6 p.m. with the closing speech by the Principal, Dr. Parbhu Arya.

Ans. As per M. Hamel, French was not going to be taught from tomorrow. Hamel informed the villagers that French was not going to be taught in the school. There was an order from Berlin that German would be taught in the schools of Alsace and Lorraine. The author, who showed no interest in the French language, started missing his mother tongue and felt sorry for not learning the language. Being a French teacher, he knew the value of language, but unfortunately, people couldn’t realise the importance of French. Naturally, people realise the value only when they are free to learn the language. The same thing happened with the author. Everyone loves the country and its language. The mother tongue always reflects the rich culture of any country.

The Tiger King was the king of Pratibandapuram. His real name was Jang Jang Bahadur. He got this name because he had killed so many innocent tigers in different states. The author gave this name to the king to prove the feudal attitude of kings towards wild animals. The astrologer declared that one day they would die. The small child asked the chief astrologer to disclose the way the death would come. The astrologer was surprised to hear this and replied that the death would come from a tiger. The young prince growled and warned, “Let tigers be aware!” Therefore, he decided to kill a hundred tigers and got the name “The Tiger King.”

The main characters in the prose section, “Lost Spring,” and the poetry section, “An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum,” live in a slum where there are no schools or the school has no facilities. How do the authors want the schools to be? Explain the inadequate infrastructure in “An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum” and “Lost Spring,” as well as the type of school that should exist.

Answer:

In “Lost Spring,”, the writer explains the poverty in Seemapuri and Ferozabad. In Lost Spring, the author, Anees Jung, analyses the grinding poverty and traditions responsible for children’s exploitation. The summary of Lost Spring will be discussed in two parts: “Sometimes I find a rupee in the garbage” and “I want to drive a car.” Both Saheb and Mukesh’s stories have the same message: that children are taken advantage of because of poverty and old ways.

The poet further explains the infrastructure of An Eementary School in a Slum. The walls are already faded and are like “sour cream walls”. The future of the students is bleak as there are no facilities in the school. The poet explains the miserable conditions of students, and they look like “rootless weeds,” with pale faces and very weak bodies, and their eyes were like “rat’s eyes.” Students have dreams but no system to fulfil them as they are never cared for by the elite classes and politicians. Their future is like a fog.

Hence, there is poverty concept which is explained by the writers in “Lost Spring,”and “An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum”.

The main features of her poetry are “an acute obsession with love and the use of confession.” Her main theme of poetry revolves round freedom, love, apathy of age, and protection. The Maharaja had killed seventy tigers and thus the tiger population became extinct in the forests of his kingdom. Is it justified to kill animals to save your life. Answer:

The Tiger King was Kalki’s way of explaining how people treat wild animals with little care. The Maharaja of Pratibandapuram is the hero of this story. He may be identified as His Highness Jamedar-General, “his name was Jung Jung Bahadur,” but he became famous as the Tiger King. He killed ninety-nine tigers to save his own life due to a saying by a purohit who declared that he would be killed by a tiger. Kalki explicitly explains the orthodox nature of a king who kills ninety-nine tigers just to save his own life!

Kalki considers him the king of kings, “the warrior of warriors, hero of heroes, champion of champions.” But he would die one day, which happens to all human beings who are born to die, as death is ultimate. You can’t save yourself even by killing 100 tigers. The Tiger King is a satire on human nature who is least bothered about the lives of wild animals and is so cruel as to kill 100 tigers to save his own life.

ii. It is the time of the World War. An American prisoner of war is washed ashore in a dying state and is found at the doorstep of a Japanese doctor. Should he save him as a doctor or hand him over to the Army as a patriot? Explain. 

The author of “The Enemy,” Pearl S. Buck, poses an open question: “What is the duty of a doctor?” What is the duty of a citizen in a time of war? ” Sadao’s house was located on the Japanese coast. He lived there with his wife, Hana, and two children, as well as his servant. One day, they saw a man on the seashore who was seriously injured and lying motionless.

They approached him and examined him. He was a wounded American soldier in the war. Dr. Sadao was in a pickle. Should he treat the injured American soldier or turn him over to the police? Hana washed the white man’s breasts and face with hot water as they began his treatment. Sadao carried out the surgery on the American soldier. He extracted his bullet from his body. He was still unconscious when he came to, and he was very weak. Dr. Sadao informed the old general about the prisoner of war. He did not want to treat him, but his medical profession required him to do so. As a doctor, it was his responsibility to save lives first, regardless of the person’s identity. The general summoned Sadao and ordered him to murder the American soldier. It did not occur. Sadao assisted the soldier in fleeing in a boat. As a result, we can say that life is more important than faith in his country.
