Subject: Views and suggestion about the importance of reading in schools

Respected sir

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention towards the importance of reading skills which are fast disappearing among students.Being a teacher, I have seen that habits of reading are decreasing due the progress of social media and screen time of the student is increased.

Generally, Indian students and teachers think that the act of reading is straightforward and easy, or some consider reading as a simple way of reading in the classroom. Therefore, they spend zero time reading. This all results in poor academic performance of the students. Reading has ampules of benefits including improving our memory and vocabulary, helping us learn new things, and improving focus and concentration. We must put emphasis on creativity and innovation. Communication skills among students must be enhanced and that will come through reading. Students must be allowed to do what they think and this will increase critical tinking among students.

Our reading habits develop in schools. It means, we should try this habit of reading at school, but unfortunately, this never happens in our schools. In schools, the classroom is dominated by a teacher and this is one-way traffic.

We ask the students to finish reading two pages but more than 90% of students don’t even try to read. They feel the burden of reading syllabus books. We should develop these habits of reading among students by providing literature of their interest. Teachers should give 25 % of the class for the purpose. Try different methods, take the students to the library where they can read the literature of their interest like reading comics books, stories books and Newspapers. This should be started at the primary level in our schools.

I hope you will like my views and suggestions and publish them in the newspaper. Your positive response will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Yours sincerely

Salma

Article Writing: Problems and Apathy of Young People toward Elders

Global population is increasing as people get older. The concept of joint families is shifting to nuclear families where elders are not cared for owing to financial and working nature of the kids, which are some of the challenges facing elderly people around the world, especially in India.

Many health- and psychosocial-related problems have been seen to increase along with life expectancy and the ageing population. In developing countries like India, a decline in the joint family system and other social activities has been noted. Older people are finding it more difficult to adapt to these changes in their lives. Youth should be aware of these challenges and treat the elderly people in their society with respect. to assess and compare young people’s perspectives of living with and without elderly family members.

To care for our ageing population, the healthcare industry needs to undergo significant change. Hospitals should be established close to the elderly population, and senior nurses should be hired, just like in industrialised nations. Positive attitudes increase the grade of care and make working with elderly people more enjoyable.

A large portion of Indians live in joint households where the senior person is in charge of the home. The younger family members support the elders, and they also play a significant role in raising their grandchildren.

Respecting family elders or placing them in nursing facilities is frowned upon in Indian culture.
